Arsenal are only seven matches into the Premier League season, so nobody is winning or losing the title this weekend. But when the team above you has started with seven straight victories, ordinary home games begin to carry extra pressure.

Everton visit the Emirates on Saturday with Arsenal second in the table on 18 points, three behind Manchester City. The Gunners have won six of their opening seven league matches and have conceded only five goals. By almost any standard, that is an excellent start. City’s perfect record is the reason it still feels as though Arsenal are chasing.

Arsenal have done the difficult part well

The strongest feature of Arsenal’s league campaign has been consistency. They have not needed every match to become a shootout. Eleven goals scored is modest compared with some of the league’s most aggressive attacks, but six wins show they have repeatedly found a way to get the job done.

Against Everton, patience could be important. The visitors are unlikely to give Arsenal the kind of open spaces that make attacking football easy. If the first goal takes time, the Emirates crowd will need to resist turning tension into frustration.

Everton can make this awkward

These are the fixtures title contenders are expected to win, which is exactly what makes them dangerous. Arsenal will have most of the ball, but possession alone will not decide the game. They need speed around the box, good movement between the lines and enough discipline to avoid being caught when Everton break.

Bukayo Saka remains one of Arsenal’s most important attacking reference points, but the responsibility cannot sit with one player. A long title race demands goals from different areas of the team.

The Manchester City pressure is already real

City travel to Aston Villa earlier on Saturday. Arsenal will therefore know what the leaders have done before their own match begins. If City win, Arsenal kick off six points behind them. If City drop points, the Emirates fixture becomes an immediate opportunity.

The current Premier League table on Sky Sports has City first on 21 points and Arsenal second on 18. Ebuss Sports readers can follow the race through our Premier League standings and revisit our earlier Arsenal story on Max Dowman’s record-breaking rise.

No need for panic, but no room for complacency

October is too early for title-deciding language. It is not too early to recognise patterns. Manchester City have set a brutal pace, and Arsenal’s job is to stay close enough that one City stumble actually matters.

That makes Everton at home straightforward in theory and important in reality. Arsenal have started like contenders. Saturday is another chance to keep proving it.
