Rashid Khan T20I wickets reached a historic mark as the Afghanistan captain became the first bowler to take 200 wickets in men’s T20 internationals.

Rashid achieved the landmark during Afghanistan’s second T20I against Zimbabwe. It came in his 120th appearance in the format and added another major record to a career already built on elite wicket-taking.

According to the ICC, Afghanistan also produced a remarkable batting recovery before winning the match by 19 runs.

Rashid Khan T20I wickets record arrives in dramatic win

Afghanistan slumped to 5 for 4 early in their innings. However, Azmatullah Omarzai changed the game with a brilliant 116, while Ijaz Ahmadzai added 52.

The pair put together a 142-run partnership for the sixth wicket or lower, a record stand in men’s T20 internationals. Their recovery lifted Afghanistan to 221 for 7 and gave the bowlers enough runs to defend.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza responded with the second T20I century of his career, but the chase eventually fell short. Afghanistan’s 19-run victory gave them an unassailable lead in the series.

Another major record for Afghanistan’s star spinner

Rashid’s achievement underlines his consistency across international cricket. Reaching 200 wickets before any other bowler also shows how quickly he has transformed the record books in the shortest format.

Afghanistan will hope his experience remains central as they prepare for future global tournaments. Meanwhile, Omarzai’s innings also showed the team’s growing batting depth.

What the Rashid Khan T20I wickets record means

The record shows how consistently Rashid has delivered for Afghanistan across different conditions and opponents. T20 cricket gives bowlers only four overs, so every chance matters. Rashid has built his success through quick leg-spin, control and the ability to attack even when batters try to score fast. Afghanistan now have a record-holder who remains central to their plans for future global tournaments. The milestone also gives younger Afghan bowlers a clear standard to chase as the national team keeps growing in international cricket.
