Alex Iwobi’s Premier League appearances reached 328 on 24 October 2026. That put the Nigeria international level with Mohamed Salah in joint second place among African players on the competition’s all-time appearance list.
Iwobi reached the milestone in Fulham’s 1-0 win over Coventry City. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the achievement. At that point, he stood 25 appearances behind Kolo Toure. The former Ivory Coast defender’s African record was 353 games.
Why Iwobi’s record matters
Longevity in the Premier League is difficult, especially for attacking players. Iwobi has remained useful across several roles and different clubs, while also carrying a major workload with Nigeria. His total reflects more than just staying fit; it shows that managers have continued to trust his technical quality, tactical discipline and versatility.
Moreover, the milestone arrives during a strong period for African players in England. Salah remains one of the league’s defining forwards, while Iwobi is building a different kind of legacy through consistency and adaptability. If he stays healthy and continues playing regularly, Toure’s record is now within realistic reach.
What comes next for Iwobi
Iwobi does not need to chase the number at the expense of performance. Instead, the record should come naturally if he remains a regular starter. Fulham’s schedule will provide plenty of opportunities, while Nigeria will also need him during a difficult AFCON qualifying campaign.
There is also a wider Nigerian angle. Iwobi recently reached 100 senior international appearances, so his club milestone adds to a year of major personal landmarks. For younger Nigerian players, the lesson is simple: elite careers are built on availability, adaptability and year-after-year consistency, not only spectacular moments.
Alex Iwobi’s Premier League appearances: the next target
The NFF announced the milestone on 25 October. The figure describes that point in his career, rather than a live total that stays fixed as Fulham play more matches.
Iwobi needs another 25 league appearances to match Touré’s 353, and 26 to move beyond him. Cup ties and Nigeria internationals do not count toward that Premier League total. The distinction also keeps the comparison fair: this is an appearance milestone, separate from Salah’s goals and other scoring records.
